South Beach
Iconic beach featuring the famous Ocean Drive and its colorful art deco facades. Perfect for strolling along the waterfront and watching the sunset. One of the most photographed beaches in the world.
Florida's most classic road trip: beaches, art and culture just 3h30 from Orlando
Step-by-step guide for Florida's most popular route, with the best stops along the way
Take Florida's Turnpike heading south (SR-91). It is the most direct and comfortable route to Miami, with dedicated SunPass lanes — no stopping to pay tolls. Optional stop: Fort Drum Service Plaza (approx. 1h into the drive), ideal for stretching your legs, fueling up or grabbing a coffee.
This midpoint area is perfect for a longer pit stop. Several restaurants line the highway and gas stations have good prices — take the opportunity to fill up before entering Greater Miami, where prices tend to be higher. If you are traveling with kids, this is a good moment for a longer break.
If you have time, a quick stop in Fort Lauderdale is worthwhile. The city has beautiful beaches and fewer crowds than Miami, plus the Las Olas Boulevard — a street filled with restaurants, shops and bars. A 1-2 hour stop is enough to stretch your legs before arriving in Miami.
You have arrived! Greater Miami awaits with its iconic attractions: South Beach with its famous art deco waterfront, Wynwood Walls with the most celebrated street art in the US, the sophisticated Brickell, the vibrant Little Havana and the tranquil Key Biscayne. We recommend planning at least 2 nights to fully enjoy the city.

Everything you need to know before hitting the road
Florida's Turnpike has automatic tolls (no stopping). With the SunPass included with BIZ, you drive straight through express lanes at a discounted rate — averaging $15-20 for the full trip. No surprise charges afterward.
In South Beach, parking can cost $6-10/hour. Opt for municipal public garages, which are cheaper. In Brickell and large malls like Brickell City Centre, there are free options for customers. Always check garage operating hours.
Avoid leaving Orlando on Friday afternoon (heavy rush hour) and the return on Sunday from 2pm onward. Miami rush hour: 7am-9am and 4pm-7pm. Best to depart early (7am-8am) or after 9am for clear roads and more time in Miami.
Fill up before leaving Orlando — prices are generally lower than in Greater Miami. Good stations near the city exit: Wawa and RaceTrac. Remember: return the car with a full tank (as received) to avoid a $10 fee plus fuel cost.
Miami is safe for tourists in tourist areas (South Beach, Wynwood, Brickell, Little Havana). As with any large American city, never leave valuables visible in the car and use monitored parking. BIZ's full insurance covers vehicle collision and theft.
The I-95 is faster than the Turnpike during light traffic, but runs through urban areas with heavier and more unpredictable traffic. For drivers less familiar with US roads, the Turnpike is calmer and more predictable. We recommend the Turnpike for the outbound trip.
